The central defender has been struggling with a knee injury of late and after he played the full 90 minutes in Barça’s Copa del Rey victory over Valencia on Thursday, Ernesto Valverde had hinted he wasn’t willing to risk the 31-year-old for a second successive game.
But Piqué’s absence is good news for Colombian international Yerry Mina, who makes his first Blaugrana start since joining from Palmeiras in January.
Elsewhere, after scoring his first goal for the club at the Mestalla, Philippe Coutinho is back in the starting line-up at Camp Nou, while Sergi Roberto comes in at right-back for Nélson Semedo, who is on the bench.
