Gareth Bale believes he has been “made more of a scapegoat than most” at Real Madrid and admits that he has endured a difficult few months at the club.

It looked certain that the Welshman would leave Santiago Bernabeu over the summer, with Zinedine Zidane conceding in public it would be “better” if Bale left for pastures new.

A move to China fell through at the last minute and come the end of the transfer window Bale was still in the Spanish capital.

The former Spurs man has since been included in the Madrid first XI for their opening games, even scoring twice last weekend against Villarreal.

And Bale has spoken for the first time about a turbulent few months.
