Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has said that striker Tammy Abraham needs support if the club are to be successful in the second half of the season.
Abraham is the club’s top goalscorer with 15 in all competitions so far this season, but struggled in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat away to Newcastle United.
Speaking after the match, Lampard said: “Tammy has been fantastic this season – it didn’t quite come off for him today but that’s football.
“We can’t absolutely rely on Tammy Abraham. We have to have goals from across the frontline if we want to bridge the gap upwards.”
The club’s next top goalscorers are Mason Mount and Christian Pulisic, who both have five to their name.
However, the other striker at the club, Michy Batshuayi has only netted once this campaign.
Chelsea have been strongly linked with bringing in a striker throughout the January transfer window, with reportedly enquires made about RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner and Lazio’s Ciro Immobile.
