In a rather surprising turn of events, Franck Ribéry looks like he’s about to extend his stay at Bayern Munich for one more year.

According to German outlet Kicker, the 35-year-old winger will soon sign a one-year extension to his contract – which is due to expire this summer – and stay at the Allianz Arena for a 12th season.

And he could be joined in penning a new deal by fellow veteran Arjen Robben.

Last week, Kicker reported that the Bundesliga champions would begin negotiations with both players following the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie with Sevilla and though it seems official confirmation of Ribéry’s new deal is closer than that of Robben’s, the Dutchman is also expected to commit to the Bavarian giants for another season.

Bayern are understood to have received enquiries from clubs in China, Qatar and Turkey for Ribéry but the Frenchman would prefer to stay put, even though the emergence of Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry could see his playing time take a big hit next season.

Since joining from Marseille for a then-club record €25m in 2007, Ribéry has made 382 appearances for Bayern, scoring 117 goals and helping the club to 21 major titles.
