Former Borussia Dortmund midfielder Michael Rummenigge has criticised Mario Götze’s use of social media and feels the only way is down now for the World Cup winner.

Götze’s contract ends in June and depending on the coronavirus situation, there’s a chance he has played his last game for the club.

Rummenigge, who played 157 games for the club between 1988 and 1993, thinks the future looks bleak for the midfielder.

Writing in his column for Sportbuzzer, Rummenigge said: “After his BVB contract expires in the summer, only category B clubs will consider him.

“I’m thinking clubs of the size of Everton, West Ham or Italian middle level clubs.”

Götze rejoined the club from Bayern Munich in 2017 but his second spell at the Signal Iduna Park has not been as successful as his first.

The playmaker has struggled for fitness and admitted to suffering from a metabolic disease which leads to increased fatigue and weight gain in February 2017.

“He has lost speed and should change his game. He is not a striker.

“In addition, he should leave all the crap with the social networks and concentrate solely on the sport.

“Sometimes, when I see him on Instagram, I wonder if he’s still a soccer player or more of a show talent.”
