Spanish footballer José Antonio Reyes has died in a traffic collision aged 35, former club Sevilla have confirmed on Saturday.

The ex-winger played also played for Arsenal, Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid and Benfica during the peak of his career.

Since ending a second spell at Sevilla in 2016, the Spaniard went on to play for Espanyol, Córdoba, Xinjiang Tianshan Leopard and Extremadura.

Reyes burst onto the scene as a teenager at Sevilla, scoring 25 goals in 96 appearances before he joined Arsenal in January 2004.

While in north London, he scored 23 times in three seasons. He won the FA Cup in 2005 and was the first Spaniard to win the Premier League as part of Arsenal’s ‘Invincibles’.

In 2006, he returned to Spain with a loan move to Real Madrid.

Reyes famously on the final day of the 2006/07 LaLiga season to clinch the title for Fabio Capello’s side, before leaving for Atlético Madrid, where he twice won the Europa League.

He would add three more Europa League titles after returning to Sevilla.

The winger also appeared 21 times for Spain between 2003 and 2006.
