Manchester City youngster Joel Latibeaudiere has spoken about his frustration at not being able to break into the club’s first team.
Latibeaudiere was widely tipped to be one of City’s next big things a couple of years ago when he captained England under-17s to a World Cup title.
But the centre-back has struggled to fight his way into Pep Guardiola’s thoughts and was sent out on loan to FC Twente for a season-long loan.
The teenager has so far refused to sign a new contract at the Etihad in the hope of playing first team football somewhere else, and has spoken to the Independent about the difficulties for young players at such a big club.
“I feel like it’s a time where I just need to be playing,” he said. “It can be very frustrating because I believe I’ve got the ability and I know if I’m given the chance, I won’t let it go.
“I want to be the best I can be and, to do that, I have to be playing first-team football.
“When you’re injured, your name can sometimes be swept under the rug a little bit and I need to be out there playing men’s football. I want to go into battle.
“I’ve always wanted the chance to play abroad at some stage. I feel like this is going to be a big season for me and I just needed that opportunity to prove myself. Nothing will stop me. If a pathway is presented at City as a result, I can think about it.”
