After winning the first Brasileirão-Copa Libertadores double in 56 years in record fashion, it’s little surprise that Flamengo absolutely dominated Brazil’s Player of the Year awards on Monday night.

Flamengo had nine players in the Team of the Year, including Bruno Henrique, who earned Player of the Year honours after a spectacular season in which he scored 21 goals, most coming in huge moments.

Alongside him up top in the XI was Gabigol, who was the Brasileirão’s top scorer for the second year in a row with 25 goals – the most since Washington’s record haul of 34 goals in 2004 (back when there were 46 games in a season).

Gerson, Giorgian De Arrascaeta and Fans’ Player of the Year Éverton Ribeiro were all in the midfield along with Athletico Paranaense midfielder Bruno Guimarães.

Flamengo swept in the back, with Rafinha, Filipe Luís, Rodrigo Caio, and Pablo Mari all taking home Team of the Year honours.

Goalkeeper Santos of Athletico Paranaense was also in the XI. Goiás striker Michael was named Young Player of the Year while Jorge Jesus was named Manager of the Year.

Arrascaeta, unsurprisingly, won goal of the season for his overhead kick against Ceará, which has a fantastic chance to be nominated for the 2020 FIFA Puskás Award.

Arrascaeta finished third in the 2018 Puskás Award voting for this scissor-kick while he was a member of Cruzeiro.
