After the conclusion of their Expansion Draft, FC Cincinnati bolstered their defence by signing star centre-back Kendall Waston from Vancouver Whitecaps.

Widely regarded as one of the best centre-backs in MLS, Waston arrives in Cincinnati in exchange for $450,000 in General Allocation Money, $300,000 in Targeted Allocation Money, and an international roster spot.

Vancouver could receive an additional $75,000 in GAM if Waston achieves certain performance-based incentives.

Cincinnati had acquired an international roster spot from Colorado Rapids in exchange for veteran forward Kei Kamara, who Cincinnati selected with the second pick in the Expansion Draft.

Waston, 30, arrived in Vancouver in 2014 and made 115 appearances for the club and scored 14 goals, eventually becoming club captain.

The Costa Rican international was named to the MLS Best XI in 2015 and 2017 and was an MLS All-Star in 2016.

He has been a major part of his international set-up as well, scoring a 95th-minute equaliser against Honduras to send Costa Rica to the 2018 World Cup.

In Russia, Waston scored on a header to help lead the Ticos to a 2-2 draw against Switzerland.

On Wednesday, multiple sources reported that Cincinnati are also set to sign experienced Polish international goalkeeper Przemysław Tytoń. The move is set to be announced this week.

Tytoń is expected to become FC Cincinnati’s number one goalkeeper, though Spencer Richey will be given a chance to compete for the starting job.

Richey spent last season with Cincinnati in the USL on-loan from the Vancouver Whitecaps and was acquired in a trade on Sunday.

The soon-to-be 32-year-old Tytoń has a wealth of top-flight experience in Europe, playing for PSV, Elche, Stuttgart, and Deportivo La Coruña.

Tytoń made 15 La Liga appearances as Deportivo’s backup goalkeeper in the last two seasons and has been out-of-contract since the summer after the club were relegated to the Segunda División.

Tytoń has 14 career caps for Poland, including three appearances at Euro 2012.
