Even when he was just 16 years old, Club América had a world of expectations for Diego Lainez, who is currently at Real Betis.

At 18, Lainez was already a very important part of a Liga MX-winning side, so he decided to move to Europe in a €14m move.

However, things have not went as planned and this season he’s been given less than an hour’s worth of playing time, which has sparked rumours that Lainez could return to América on loan for the 2020 Clausura campaign.

Although América supporters would undoubtedly be thrilled to see one of their own come back, Lainez’s father just about shot down the possibility.

“I can speak to you in the work that I do, which is like a father of a family,” he told Futboleros Sin Fronteras.

“I think that in Diego’s dreams and mentality it is not at this time to return to Mexico.”

The winger, who is under contract until 2024, has only contributed a goal and an assist in 21 career matches with Betis thus far.
