Seamus Coleman’s 73rd-minute header was the difference as Everton defeated Monaco 1-0 in Switzerland to secure their first win of the pre-season.
Maarten Stekelenburg came up huge in the first half with a save on Rony Lopes’ penalty attempt and after the match, Lucas Digne was quick to praise Everton’s third-choice goalkeeper.
“It was a good game, a hard game after a hard week. The score was good for us, it will be important for us to finish with the victory because we trained very hard this week and it’s the bonus.
“We trained very hard during the week, we have the sessions every day. We are tired today but we fight every time for the jersey. When we can win like this after the hard work is the best way.
“We know we have three very important goalkeepers and three very good goalkeepers. They show every time their best, Maarten [Stekelenburg] showed that he can be a very good goalkeeper.”
Everton will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to the DW to face Wigan.
That ball from Bernard though! Simply exquisite.
