Carlo Ancelotti may decide to rescue Hirving Lozano from his Napoli nightmare and bring the winger to Everton.
Corriere dello Sport has reported that it looks increasingly likely that the Mexico international will not see a second season at the Stadio San Paolo.
It was Ancelotti who signed the 24-year-old for the Italian side last summer in a €34.2m deal from PSV Eindhoven.
That represented a club record transfer fee for the Serie A outfit, but the player has failed to find his feet in Naples.
He has been given just one start under new manager Gennaro Gattuso, who replaced Ancelotti in December, and Napoli are ready to move the player on unless the situation improves dramatically before the summer.
It is a far cry from the form the Mexico City native enjoyed in the Netherlands. In just two seasons at PSV, he scored 40 goals and had 23 assists in 79 appearances.
Goodison Park would seem an obvious destination for Lozano, with Corriere dello Sport saying that Ancelotti “apparently could take him to Everton”.
Not only is Ancelotti said to still rate the player, but Marcel Brands – who signed him for PSV – is Director of Football for the Toffees.
Lozano is currently nursing a muscle injury and has not travelled with Napoli to Cagliari for the game between the sides on Sunday.
