Everton are being linked with a surprise move for Danny Rose.

The left-back has spent the season as second choice at Tottenham Hotspur after an injury and a pre-season outburst saw him fall behind Ben Davies in the pecking order.

Rose, who has said he would like to play up north again before he retires, has been linked with a move to Manchester United but they have now cooled their interest in him.

According to the Mirror, Everton have now emerged as contenders for his signature. The Toffees are looking to replace 34-year-old Leighton Baines and have reportedly earmarked Rose as the perfect candidate.

Whether or not the England defender, who has previously expressed a desire to win titles, would be willing to move to Goodison Park is another matter.

Tottenham are said to want a fee of around £37m for the defender. That and his injury issues have seen United consider alternatives in the position.
