Chelsea youngster Ethan Ampadu is expected to tie up a move to RB Leipzig within the coming days after undergoing a successful medical.
Although he is highly regarded at Stamford Bridge, the teenager does not feature in Frank Lampard’s immediate plans.
Sky Sports report that he has completed a medical with Leipzig and is expected to join on a season-long loan deal.
Last season, Ampadu made a total of five senior appearances under the stewardship of Maurizio Sarri.
New boss Lampard feels it is an important time in the 18-year-old’s career and wants him to receive more playing time.
“I tried to sign Ethan on loan at Derby last year so I’m a big fan of him,” said the Chelsea coach, quoted by the Metro.
“But with the minutes he played last year, I have to think of the bigger picture and the interests of Ethan and Chelsea.
“The idea that he could play a lot of games somewhere is good for him.”
Adept at playing both centre-back and in central midfield, the youngster has already been capped at senior level by Wales.
