Before the 2019 Apertura campaign kicked off, there would have been many fans that believed América would face Rayados in this season’s final.

However, after the two sides finished sixth and eighth in the table, respectively, it appeared that a match-up between the two Mexican giants was a longshot.

After all four top seeds were upset in the quarters and following a thrilling semi-final round, we are now just a week away from the first leg of what should be a very tasty final.

While Rayados face Al-Hilal in Saturday’s Club World Cup third-place game, América will have a much easier and lighter warm-up as they face Leones Negros in a friendly.

Rayados put on an impressive showing in front of a world audience on Wednesday, falling 2-1 to Liverpool courtesy of a Roberto Firmino goal in extra time.

However, according to Emanuel Aguilera, this performance has not made any of the América players nervous.

“This meeting has raised a lot of their fans’ expectations, more so after their very good performance against Liverpool in the Club World Cup.

“However, this does not affect our team. We are not concerned at all since before they went to the Club World Cup we knew that we would play the Final against them.

“They are a great team that has great players and they are very well led by the ‘Turco’ ( Antonio Mohamed).

“This has been demonstrated throughout the Liguilla and the entire Apertura tournament.”

The two sides will meet on the 26th and the 29th later this month. América beat Rayados 4-2 back in July in the first match of the season, though Rayados defeated América 2-1 in a November friendly just before the Liguilla kicked off.
