Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson believes his side need to “continue at the same level” and not think about a potential title challenge from Liverpool.

Jürgen Klopp’s side put more pressure on the reigning champions after a thrilling 4-3 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday.

That win took the Reds seven points clear of the Etihad outfit, with City set to play Huddersfield on Sunday.

But the Brazilian shot-stopper has insisted that he always knew this season would be more difficult than the last.

“Defending the title is difficult but we always thought it would be. I think it’s because the Premier League has great teams and it’s the most competitive football in the world,” he is quoted as saying by the Manchester Evening News.

“I think that is a healthy sign for any competition and it makes it more exciting because many teams can win it in the end.

“All the teams improve year after year, that’s why every time it is more and more difficult to win the Premier League.

“In the Premier League, it’s very difficult to score more than four or five goals.

“I think we have been playing good football this season, we finished the year in good shape, we have also started with a very good level. So, we just need to carry on and continue at the same level.”

City travel to the Yorkshire outfit on Sunday before with their following Premier League game on January 29 against Newcastle.
