Eden Hazard has admitted he was ‘overweight’ after letting himself go while on holiday after signing for Real Madrid in the summer.

The Belgium international made the move to the Spanish giants from Chelsea for a club record €100m in June but made a disappointing start to the season, failing to score a goal until the 4-2 win over Granada in October.

Speaking to Belgian magazine Sport/Foot, Hazard said: “I put on five kilos in the summer. I’m one of those people who puts on weight very quickly then loses it very quickly.

“It’s true, I cannot lie, if I’m on holiday, then I’m on holiday.”

There were questions asked about Hazard’s fitness and application when the 28-year-old arrived at the Santiago Bernabéu.

“When I was at Lille I weighed 72 kilos but then I gained muscle and went to 75 kilos. On a bad day I can weigh 77.”

Hazard had begun to shown glimpses of finding his old form before an ankle injury sustained in the 2-2 draw against Paris Saint-Germain in November has left him out of action ever since.
