Dylan McGeouch appeared set to leave Sunderland this summer due to frustration with his lack of playing time.

In the season run-in, chances became more limited for the Scotland midfielder, leading him to voicing his displeasure with the situation.

But despite admitting at the end of the season that he would be open to a move, he has now reversed course on that decision.

Aberdeen were strongly linked with a move for him but McGeouch insisted he wants to prove what he can do at the Stadium of Light.

“It was obviously disappointing what happened towards the end of the season, for me and the club as well,” he said, quoted by the Sunderland Echo.

“Personally, I didn’t have much game time towards the end. It is something that you go away and think about.

“I wanted to prove that I can play in this team, that I could come back in pre-season, work hard and put myself in the manager’s plans.

“Hopefully I can do that. I’ve played a lot and I’m looking forward to the season starting so now it is up to me.

“Now I’ve got to prove myself and hopefully I can do that.”

The 26-year-old has been an impressive performer so far in Sunderland’s friendlies in England and Portugal.
