On Thursday night, Diego Maradona’s Dorados took a huge step to claiming the 2018 Ascenso MX Apertura title, as they defeated San Luis 1-0 in the first leg of the final.

The Apertura and Clausura champions will meet in May to determine who will be promoted to Liga MX.

Before the match, former Mexican boxer Julio César Chávez visited the dressing room to motivate Diego and his team.

Edson Rivera’s 73rd-minute goal was the difference on the night as Dorados will take a slim advantage heading into Sunday’s second leg.

However, it was Diego Maradona who took centre stage, as he was sent off from the touchline by the referee and the fourth official for his aggressive behaviour.

Maradona wouldn’t leave the pitch without first making a scene and even appeared to threaten to punch opposition manager Alfonso Sosa during their touchline dispute.

The 1986 World Cup winner with Argentina, of course, left was given a standing ovation as he left the pitch.

Diego Maradona is truly a gift to the football world.
