Deportes Temuco faced an insurmountable lead and couldn’t get the three goals they needed against a very lackluster San Lorenzo side.
Although the Chileans won the match 1-0, San Lorenzo won 3-1 aggregate and advanced to the Copa Sudamericana round-of-16.
San Lorenzo had been given a 3-0 victory by CONMEBOL in the first leg after it was determined that, in Temuco’s surprising 2-1 win in Argentina, new signing Jonathan Requena was ineligible since he previously played for Defensa y Justica in the first round of the tournament.
The 3-0 advantage allowed last year’s third-placed Superliga side to relax and let the Chileans do what they wanted, as their much-inferior opponents faced a huge disadvantage heading into the match.
Nicolás Navarro made seven saves for the Argentinians and had bravely earned the clean sheet until Temuco scored in the 93rd minute.
San Lorenzo will face Nacional of Uruguay after they defeated Sol de America of Paraguay 1-0 on aggregate.
