John McGinn could be benched by Aston Villa for some of the final games of the season.

The midfielder has been on fire for Villa lately, scoring four times in his last six games.

However, he’s on 13 yellow cards for the season and is not far off facing a lengthy ban.

If the midfielder is booked just twice more this season, he’ll have to sit out three matches.

Villa have won eight on the bounce but, while the play-offs still aren’t secured, Smith won’t leave McGinn out.

“It would depend on where we were in the league at that time and whether we were mathematically certain of the play-offs,” the Villa boss told the Birmingham Mail.

“Or whether he is playing well or not. At the moment it’s nothing to worry about, he is on 13.

“If he gets one on Friday then I will start worrying then. At the moment, I don’t need to.”

Villa will certainly hope to avoid a ban for McGinn for when the play-offs come around.
