Though he has earned 16 caps for the Netherlands, many feel that Davy Klaassen has failed to live up to the hype.
After an extremely fruitful career at Ajax, where he helped the Dutch outfit reach the Europa League final in 2017, Klaassen moved to Everton on a five-year, €27.5m deal.
After making only seven Premier League appearances for the Toffees, Everton sold him to German side Werder Bremen over the summer for 50 per cent of what they originally paid.
Before Johan Cruyff died, he had compared Klaassen to both Xavi and Toni Kroos for his ‘perfect anticipation’ on the pitch.
However, Klaassen says he doesn’t deserve to be compared to the La Liga stars.
“No, I think it’s impossible to compare players at all,” Klaassen told Omnisport. “But I think it’s even more impossible to compare anyone to Xavi and Kroos.
“I think it’s impossible because they are some of the best midfielders in the world. So, yeah it’s nice that he said it. But yes, I think it’s impossible.”
Klaassen has had a decent start to his career in Germany, scoring two goals and contributing two assists in 11 Bundesliga starts this season.
