David Moyes appears to be attempting to get the band back together to help West Ham in the club’s fight against relegation.

According to the Mirror, the Glaswegian wants to reunite with Chelsea’s Ross Barkley, a player who he became familiar with during their time together at Everton.

Despite beginning the season as a mainstay in Frank Lampard’s side, injury and the form of Mateo Kovacic had led to Barkley not starting a Premier League game since the middle of October before the recent 3-0 win at home to Burnley.

The 26-year-old has fallen behind the Croatian, as well as N’Golo Kanté, Mason Mount and Jorginho in the midfield pecking order at Stamford Bridge, although he did score in the 2-0 FA Cup win over Nottingham Forest on 5 January.

Moyes is looking to improve his options in midfield with the fitness of Jack Wilshere still proving to be an issue for the Hammers.

Barkley made his breakthrough in professional football under Moyes, making 13 appearances at Goodison Park before flourishing under his successor, Roberto Martínez.

A reunion could help strengthen Barkley’s chances of breaking into Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2020.
