Recent reports indicate that David Alaba is seriously thinking about leaving Bayern Munich as a result of a promise the club made which wasn’t kept.

The 27-year-old has been at the club since emerging as a youth team prospect in 2010 but his long-term future in Bavaria has came into question of late.

With his contract at the Allianz Arena set to expire in the summer of 2021, there has been no movement on a new deal as yet.

But it has emerged that Alaba’s incredible versatility may have set him back and led to his disappointment with how he has been utilised over the past four years.

SportBild report that the Austria international is considering leaving the club due to being unhappy at not being fielded in his preferred position in midfield.

Alaba last extended his deal in 2016 and at that time was promised by the club’s hierarchy that he would be given chances to play further forward as he requested.

However, those promises haven’t been fulfilled on the field, with Alaba often featuring at left-back or even, given the injury crisis at the club this season, in central defence when required.

As a result, he is now mulling over moving to a club where he would receive the required playing time in a more advanced role, one that he has enjoyed for his country.
