Chelsea are closely linked with a move for Daniele Rugani in the next transfer window as the centre back is unhappy with his playing time.

Manager Maurizio Sarri knows the player well from the pair’s time together at Empoli. Across two seasons, Rugani anchored the centre of defence for Sarri’s side in 81 appearances.

The Blues made a strong effort to sign the young defender over the summer but Rugani stayed at Juventus to fight for his spot.

Rugani is currently under contract with the Old Lady until 2021 and his transfer price is likely to start around €35 million.

Chelsea’s Italian manager will make another bid for the 24-year-old in the January transfer window.

While the Blues have only conceded eight goals in the Premier League, the partnership of David Luiz and Antonio Rüdiger could always use competition within the squad.

Other options like Gary Cahill and Andreas Christensen may be on their way out at Stamford Bridge.

While other sides have shown interest in the talent, signs point to a reunion for Sarri at Chelsea. Other Premier League teams may be unwilling to open the coffers on Rugani while the fact the player is enrolled in English language courses puts in doubt a move to Serie A rivals AS Roma.

If Rugani does leave Turin this winter, Chelsea are the most likely destination.
