Cruz Azul defeated Monarcas 2-0 on Friday, thanks to second-half goals from Martin Cauteruccio and Pablo Aguilar.

La Maquina clinched the top seed for the Liguilla and are in line to claim the double following their Copa MX win last month.

Monarcas came in needing a win to clinch a Liguilla berth but now must hope for both Pachuca and Querétaro to lose or draw their games on Saturday.

Despite needing just a point to secure the number one seed, Cruz Azul scored a pair of goals six minutes apart after a lifeless first half.

Martin Cauteruccio opened the scoring in the 68th minute after a defensive error by Monarcas and a fantastic move from talented 20-year-old Roberto Alvarado.

Pablo Aguilar put the match out of reach in the 74th minute, heading home the corner much to the dismay of the home crowd.
