Cristiano Ronaldo has claimed that injury was the reason that he was substituted twice with Juventus before the international break.
Many were left surprised when Maurizio Sarri brought his talismanic forward off before the end against both Lokomotiv Moscow and Milan.
Following their win over the Rossoneri, when Ronaldo stormed down the tunnel and left the stadium early, Sarri insisted a knee issue was the reason for his use of Ronaldo.
That is an assertion that was backed up by the player after Portugal’s 2-0 win over Luxembourg.
“In the last three weeks I have been limited,” the former Real Madrid man told A Bola.
“Everyone knows that I don’t like to be substituted but there was no problem in my gestures after the change.
“I tried to help Juventus by playing through injury. Nobody likes to be replaced but I understand it.
“That’s because I wasn’t fit in those two games. I wasn’t 100%.”
Ronaldo showed few signs of still struggling with his fitness during the international break, scoring four goals in two games to take his international tally to 99.
