Coventry City will play their 2018/19 fixtures at Birmingham City’s St Andrews home, the club have confirmed.

For several weeks, the club had been hopeful of reaching an agreement with Ricoh Arena tenants the Wasps to play their games there.

However, no agreement could be reached and the Football League imposed the move, the club claimed, if Coventry were to retain their Football League status.

“It is beyond regrettable. We know full well this is a very sad day for the club and supporters,” read a Coventry City statement.

“Our fans should be able to watch the team play in the city that we are proud to represent.

“Supporters of Coventry City are now facing, for a second time, the prospect of enforced groundshare and the decision to attend matches or not.

“That is a situation and decision that no football fan should have to ever face.

“We understand the strength of feeling in regard to a groundshare. We wholeheartedly share your feeling that Coventry City should play in Coventry.

“This decision was our last resort and was made to ensure the club can fulfil its fixtures next season.”

Issues between the club’s owners SISU, Wasps and the city council have led to the situation in which the Sky Blues were forced to look elsewhere for a home next season.
