Could Carlos Tevez retire after the Copa Libertadores final? | OneFootball

Carlos Tevez always knew he would return to Boca Juniors when he left for Shanghai Shenhua in December 2016, less than three weeks after scoring a match-winning brace in the Superclásico.

When he returned in January for his third stint at Boca, he definitely didn’t think he’d be treated like a legend despite being mainly used as a substitute.

Tevez accepted his bench role without argument, a classy gesture that has been celebrated amongst the Boca supporters.

“Today I have to experience things from outside and not inside the field,” Tevez said last week.

“I have 26 titles and I put everything to the side for the glory of this club, and that’s something everyone must understand.”

In the first leg of the Copa Libertadores final, the 34-year-old was impressive in 17 minutes of action, which has prompted some to believe that he will start up top in the second leg.

Some, including TNT Sports journalist Martín Costa, also believe that the match will be his last as a professional.

“This is the game for Tevez, because it may be his last one,” Costa said.

“How many times has he said that his dream is to retire as the champion of South America? Especially because the final is against River. ”

In 32 appearances in 2018, Tevez is still in fine form – scoring 10 goals and assisting three others.

Tevez has made stops at Boca Juniors, Corinthians, West Ham, Manchester United, Manchester City, Juventus, and Shanghai Shenhua since graduating from the Boca academy in 2001.

Among the Argentinian’s 26 titles, Tevez has won the Champions League, Copa Libertadores, Copa Sudamericana, three Premier League titles, and two Serie A titles in addition to a plethora of individual honours.
