After being very much in the title hunt most of the season, Corinthians fell out of the top four last week after suffering a 2-1 loss at home against struggling Cruzeiro.
With the loss, Corinthians have failed to win any of their last five games and have picked up just three out of their last 15 possible points.
In a press conference on Wednesday, Corinthians football director Duílio Monteiro Alves announced their intentions for the 2020 campaign will not be dependent based on Libertadores qualification.
“I really believe that we will qualify (for the Copa Libertadores). We will continue working heavily and we have all the conditions to be successful.
“We have the squad, the manager, the structure, the fans, and the arena. Corinthians has everything to be in the top four.
“Corinthians won’t do much in January because we reassembled our squad next year. We have made a huge investment and brought in many players who are still adapting to the club and the manager.”
“Corinthians understand that they always have to be fighting for the title in the Libertadores, the Sudamericana, the Brasileirão, the Paulista, the Copa do Brasil… all the championships that the team plays. We must always be.
“This will not change what we intend to do to reinforce the squad.”
Fifth-placed Corinthians will face third-placed Santos in an all-important Clássico Alvinegro clash this Saturday.
