Corinthians can no longer overtake rival São Paulo and already know they will start in the second qualifying round of the 2020 Copa Libertadores.

However, that does not mean that the club have nothing to play on Sunday when they take on Fluminense in their final match of the season.

A win or an Internacional draw or loss vs Atlético Mineiro would mean that Corinthians finish in seventh place.

The difference in prize money between seventh and eighth place is a cool R$1.7m (€365,000), which is no small chunk of change in Brazil.

That figure is roughly the income for a sold-out match at the Arena Corinthians.

The seventh-placed side in the Brasileirão is awarded R$23.1m, compared to the R$21.4m for eighth place. Champions Flamengo will receive R$33m.

In addition to the award money itself, the distribution of television money is linked to performance in the competition.

With 30% of the R$330m being distributed based on position in the table, you can be sure that a few million more reais are at stake on Sunday.
