Brazilian international centre-back Gil wants to return to Brazil six months before his contract with Chinese Super League side Shandong Luneng expires.

The 31-year-old wants to expedite his exit to solve his own personal problems in the country and, according to GloboEsporte, Corinthians have been monitoring the situation.

The president of Timão, Andrés Sanchez, has been leading negotiations and is trying to sign Gil on a free.

Although the CSL side are likely to comply, Corinthians need to sign the defender before other clubs come in and offer a better deal.

In addition, Gil needs to agree to reduce his salary to facilitate the move. However, he wants to receive the final six months of wages left over from his contract with Shandong.

That is currently the biggest obstacle in the negotiations.

Gil featured for Corinthians between 2013 and 2016 and played a major role in winning the 2015 Brasileirão title.
