Corinthians welcomed São Paulo into the Arena in Itaquera for the latest edition of the Clássico Majestoso on Sunday.

The matchday 7 of the Campeonato Paulista had added significance for the two teams but Timão have been struggling in their group of the state competition.

The first quality chance of the match did not arrive until the 41st minute when São Paulo goalkeeper Tiago Volpi saved from Pedrinho.

On an ensuing corner kick, however, Junior Sornoza sent in service that 28-year-old centre back Manoel got his head onto.

The defender directed his effort on frame and Volpi appeared to knock the ball off the post and over the line in the 43rd minute.

Pablo Felipe Teixeira drew the visitors level 12 minutes after the break.

Left-back Reinaldo hit a corner kick that Pablo flicked goal-wards at the near post. Corinthians goalkeeper Cássio Ramos was unable to get his right hand down in time and the 26-year-old winger equalised for the Tricolor in the 57th minute.

Timão right-back Fágner sent a cross into the box towards Vágner Love but Volpi did enough to put off the Corinthians substitute.

Unfortunately for São Paulo, the ball fell to Gustavo who finished in the empty net in the 73rd minute.

São Paulo fell on their travels to Corinthians Arena on Sunday to stya on nine points after seven match. The Tricolor retain second place in Group D in the Campeonato Paulista.

The victory pushes the home team up to 10 points and Corinthians have finally risen to the top of Group C.
