President of CONMEBOL, Alejandro Domínguez, has denied rumours that CONCACAF clubs could take part in the Copa Libertadores.

Reports two weeks ago insisted talks were underway to see MLS and Liga MX clubs included in the competition.

However, Domínguez completely denied that on Monday.

“There is absolutely no truth in that,” said the Paraguayan.

“The rumours come from the Mexican press, but there are no conversations.”

Liga MX clubs took part in the Libertadores until 2015 but decided against continuing due to clashes between the South American and Mexican league calendars.

“They withdrew and we never spoke again,” Domínguez continued. “The rumours constantly come from the Mexican press.”

The CONMEBOL leader went on to say there is also no truth that MLS clubs may join the competition.

“There is no type of conversation [with the MLS]. There has been no contact.”
