León moved to seven points after Mauro Boselli scored twice to defeat Club América.

After stuttering to a draw against Querétaro in matchday 5, the Águilas lost their second game of the 2018 Apertura on Wednesday night.

In the 11th minute Boselli met Fernando Navarro’s cross near the penalty spot and placed his header in the corner past a diving Agustín Marchesín. Centre back Edson Álvarez will be disappointed not to have made the forward at least work harder to win an aerial challenge in the 18-yard box.

After conceding, América tried to answer right back but the first touches of both Roger Martínez and Oribe Peralta stymied their team’s attacks. On the other end, Marchesín made an impressive double-save against Boselli in the 26th minute.

Argentine winger Maximiliano Cerato threw himself to the ground inside the area to win a penalty for the hosts. Cerato was off-balance when dribbling into the box and replays showed no contact with defender Bruno Valdez but the referee pointed to the spot.

Boselli stepped up to add another to his goal-tally and bury the azulcrema at home in the 65th minute.

Manager Miguel Herrera has never won at León Stadium during his two spells in charge at América, including the 2013 Apertura Liguilla finals.

While Herrera suffers from something of a curse, la fiera striker Boselli enjoy the opposite. The Argentine forward has now scored 12 goals against América and his two on Wednesday also moved him to 101 league goals for León.
