With Guido Rodríguez all but certain to leave Club América for Europe in January, there has been increased speculation that Iván Marcone could be his replacement with Las Águilas.
Marcone moved from Cruz Azul to Boca Juniors last January in order to boost his hopes of making the Argentina team for the 2019 Copa America tournament.
The midfielder failed to achieve that international goal, and he has endured an underwhelming time at club level as well.
Despite signing a four-year deal when he moved to Boca for €7.5m, a move back to Mexico may appeal to the 29-year-old.
The vastly experienced Argentine would represent a minimal risk signing for América coach Miguel Herrera.
A return to Cruz Azul for Marcone has been mooted and there has also been reported interest from Tigres and Monterrey.
However, as rumours of a move to América continue to spread, it looks increasingly likely that such a deal that would suit both the player and club’s needs next season.
