It’s no surprise that Club América centre-back Edson Álvarez has attracted attention from clubs all around the world.

The 21-year-old has already earned 23 caps with the Mexican national team and is one of manager Miguel Herrera’s most reliable and versatile players.

Despite signing a contract extension in May, Álvarez has been linked to a number of clubs, most notably Wolves, largely due to his $10m (€9m) release clause and his ability to also play right-back and defensive midfielder.

Wolves recently signed his El Tri team-mate Raúl Jiménez to a club-record deal after an exceptional performance on loan from Benfica.

In an interview with Nacion Deportes, Club América director Santiago Baños admitted there has been a lot of interest in the player but no concrete bids.

“There have been approaches, obviously a player who has been followed for a long time, but there has not been an offer,” Baños said.

“Obviously I have had meetings with his representative and we are in talks, but a formal offer in which we have an established amount? Not yet.”

Álvarez has made 107 appearances for the club since making his debut in October 2016, recently winning both the Liga MX and Copa MX titles.
