It looks like Chelsea are going to getting the old band back together this summer.

With former midfielder Frank Lampard expected to become the club’s new manager following the departure of Maurizio Sarri last weekend, a couple of other former players could soon be joining the Blues’ backroom staff.

Ex-Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Čech has been tipped to become the new technical director at Stamford Bridge – a role which has been vacant since Michael Emenalo left in November 2017.

The west London club also have a number of other ex-players on the staff including Joe Cole, Tore Andre Flo, Paulo Ferreira, Eddie Newton and Carlo Cudicini.

And now former midfielder Claude Makélélé – who played for the club between 2003 and 2005 – could soon be joining them, according to the Evening Standard.

Makélélé left his role as manager of Belgian side KAS Eupen last weekend and is reportedly poised to return to Chelsea, where he will work with the club’s loan players.

The 46-year-old Frenchman also represented the likes of Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain during his playing days, and was previously part of Paul Clement’s coaching staff at Swansea City.

But it could be one legend in, two out.

The Evening Standard also report that Gianfranco Zola is expected to follow Sarri out of the Stamford Bridge door, while former goalkeeper Cudicini could also have his contract terminated when he returns from holiday next month.
