Christian Pulisic was in a foul mood after the United States lost 3-0 at the hands of England on Thursday.

Goals from Jesse Lingard, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Callum Wilson gave the Three Lions the victory in London, but the scoreline flattered the visitors somewhat, and they were fortunate the defeat wasn’t heavier.

The USMNT are in a recovery period after failing to qualify for last summer’s World Cup and after their performance at Wembley, Pulisic believes they must improve quickly.

“We need to get a lot better as a team,” the Borussia Dortmund forward told reporters.

“We can talk about continuing to gain experience. That is not why we are here. We want to win now. We need to win these games.

“I’m a competitive guy and I know everyone else is in that locker room. It wasn’t good enough today.”

Dave Sarachan has been in caretaker charge of the USMNT for the last 13 months and while Pulisic was keen to deflect blame away from the coach, he also hopes a permanent successor to Bruce Arena is appointed soon.

“It’s tough,” he added.

“Dave [Sarachan]’s doing what he can. He wants to win these games just like we do. It’s going to help a lot when we get a permanent head coach moving forward, a guy who has a real plan and a style of how we want to play.

“If we’re going to compete with a side like England, we need a lot more energy.”

“We have a lot of talent, you guys can see that.

“We have a long way to go. We have a lot of young guys and we can be a lot better. We’re going to day by day.”
