A late Gyasi Zardes goal helped the USMNT continue their 100 per cent start under Gregg Berhalter on Thursday.
Despite dominating possession, the US struggled to create many chances before Zardes scored the game’s only goal against Ecuador.
With a lot of new players involved, the squad are still getting to grips with Berhalter’s demands.
“As you can see, we kept the ball well,” Christian Pulisic said after the match.
“I think we had some good moments, but we didn’t expect to be perfect and we still have a lot of stuff we can work on.
“But it was a good start.”
His manager echoed those thoughts when he faced reporters.
“When you look at the amount of information we’ve given the guys in the last two days we’re pleased with the performance,” said Berhalter, previously head coach at LA Galaxy and Columbus Crew.
“I think it’s a good starting point for this group and the defending was really good, so we’re pleased.”
“From a team standpoint I was happy with the defensive shape, happy with the structure.
“It was good that our centre-backs, even when we were up the field, they could win every duel that comes out. It was really impressive.”
Sterner tests are coming up for the team now, as they take on Chile next week.
