There’s no doubt that Chivas captain Jair Pereira has been living up to his duties off the pitch.

However, he has not been able to lead his team to many victories in the last two years.

With the club in 15th place, mathematically eliminated from the Liguilla with two games to play, and facing a relegation battle next season, Pereira issued a public apology on Thursday.

“We know that they (the fans) have always wanted Chivas to be at the top. I apologise for the performance of the team.

“I do not want to justify our results, we have not lived up to what the club needs. We know that we are not making fools of ourselves, as our performances have hurt the fans.

“It hurts us more.”

The defender then went on to say that he and the club must be prepared for everything this summer, including a mass exodus of players.

“There are going to be a lot of changes because, at the end of the day, they (the Chivas leadership) have to evaluate things.

“None of us is above the institution. Chivas is a very big team and you have to have players to match.”

Chivas will likely struggle to finish the season strong as they face top-two sides León and Tigres.
