Chelsea have revived their interest in Milan defender Alessio Romagnoli, say reports in the Italian press on Wednesday.

According to Rome-based Leggo, the Rossoneri could sell the 23-year-old if they fail to qualify for the Champions League this season.

The newspaper believes that “several clubs are following the defender”, among them the west London side, who are thought to have sent scouts to assess his performances in the past few weeks.

The Blues had wanted to sign the Italy international last summer, but opted instead for Roma’s Antonio Rüdiger.

The Stamford Bridge outfit have lost four of their last five games in the Premier League, leaving them five points behind the Champions League places.
