Chelsea loanee in limbo after injury

Ruben Loftus-Cheek had an impressive start to his campaign, but after being injured for months, his Chelsea career is in limbo.

During his time at Crystal Palace, Loftus-Cheek was one of the best players in their midfield. However, after injuring his ankle against Arsenal on 28 December, he has since injured his knee.

It is unknown when he will be fit again.

At 22, this could not have happened at a worse time. He had an outside chance of making England’s World Cup squad, and now he’s running out of time to make it at Chelsea.

Whether it was Chelsea’s choice or Loftus-Cheek’s to stay with the London club is unknown. The Blues should have learned their lesson by now – Josh McEachran and Nathaniel Chalobah weren’t given enough minutes early in their careers to develop.

Lewis Baker’s headed down the same road. Nathan Aké decided to leave.

If Loftus-Cheek gets back on the pitch soon and plays miraculously well, he could be in contention for Chelsea and World Cup squads again. If not, he could see himself being another typical Chelsea loanee experiment gone wrong.
