Didier Deschamps has reassured Chelsea that N’Golo Kanté was only removed from France’s starting XI for their game against Iceland as a “precaution”.

Blues boss Frank Lampard had asked Deschamps not to pick the midfielder for their pair of European Championship qualifiers this month after struggling with several niggling injuries since the start of the season.

Still though, Kanté was picked and was due to start against Iceland on Friday.

The 28-year-old was then pulled from the side at the 11th hour, Deschamps though has insisted that there is nothing seriously wrong with the former Leicester man.

“He felt a pain in the adductor muscle” said the France boss after the match.

“He had a feeling where he did not feel comfortable to play.

“I made the decision [to pull him from the squad], because maybe it could get even worse. I knew Moussa would be ready.”

Asked whether Kante would play against Turkey, Deschamps said: “I do not think it’s too serious for NG [Kante], but I do not have an answer tonight.”
