Chelsea defender David Luiz has praised the club for hiring Frank Lampard.
Luiz was a team-mate of Lampard’s at Stamford Bridge during his playing career.
Now, though, the former midfielder is in the dugout.
“It’s great to see him [Lampard] here,” Luiz told the club’s official website.
Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Bohemians on Wednesday, Luiz expressed his enthusiasm about Lampard’s appointment.
“He’s someone who knows what it means to be at Chelsea and understands the DNA of this club. We are working well so far, everyone is getting along and the sessions have been great.
“Lamps, or should I say ‘Gaffer’, is now our leader and he’s going to try to do everything he can like he did when he was a player, and now it’s up to us to help him build the spirit and the philosophy around the club to be successful.”
Wednesday’s draw may not have been the perfect start but Lampard’s first real test will come on the opening weekend of the Premier League season, when the Blues visit Manchester United.
