In his first four seasons at Chelsea, Cesc Fàbregas was undoubtedly a key piece of their rotation.

However, since Maurizio Sarri arrived at Stamford Bridge, Fàbregas has made only one Premier League start and has otherwise only appeared against inferior opponents in cup competitions.

When Fàbregas did get the starting nod at Wolves last Wednesday, he did little to change Sarri’s mind as Chelsea suffered a shock 2-1 loss.

“I know what my role is,” Fàbregas admitted. “Unfortunately, it’s not the one I want. I’m keeping it professional as usual.

“I’m always trying to do my best, in the conditions, playing with the youngsters, playing with the first team, even though this year I still haven’t played with the full, full first-team for one game.

“But, I’m trying to do what I can. It’s a difficult situation for me, obviously.”

With his contract expiring this summer, Fàbregas has been linked to a €8m move to AC Milan, with some reports suggesting the Spaniard is being tempted with a two-and-a-half-year deal.

However, Fàbregas refuses to give up on his Chelsea career.

“We’ll see what happens. It’s too early to talk about [leaving the club] now. I don’t give up.

“I’m not someone who you’ll see complaining or not giving his all because of that.

“I’ll always be there showing my face when needed and if the time comes the time comes.”
