The season is over for Celtic’s Jonny Hayes, who suffered a fractured tibia on Boxing Day.

Haynes was substituted half an hour into Celtic’s 2-0 win over Dundee and will be sidelined for six months.

It had been hoped the injury wasn’t too serious but X-Rays have now confirmed the worse.

Hayes, 30, only joined Celtic in the summer and has struggled to force his way into the side, sitting below Callum McGregor, James Forrest, and Scott Sinclair in the pecking order.

The Boxing Day game was just Hayes’ sixth SPL start of the season as he was rewarded for scoring his first goal for the Hoops against former club Aberdeen the previous weekend.
