Celtic are poised to sign American left back Andrew Gutman, who recently had a trial with fierce local rivals Rangers.

That’s according to The Times, who report that Gutman will travel to Glasgow to obtain a work permit before signing for the Scottish champions.

The 22-year-old has been on the books of MLS side Chicago Fire but most recently played college football for Indiana Hoosiers.

He underwent a trial at Rangers in December but is now expected to move to Parkhead to provide cover for Kieran Tierney and Emilio Izaguirre – the latter of whom has been linked with a move away from the club this month.

The Bhoys have also been linked with a move for Olympiacos right-back Omar Elabdellaoui. The 27-year-old Norway international began his career at Manchester City and spent time on loan at Hull during the second half of the 2016/17 Premier League season.

Meanwhile, Youssouf Mulumbu, Lewis Morgan and Jack Hendry are all expected to leave the club on loan in January.

Mulumbu has started just two games since joining from Kilmarnock in the summer, and Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers recently admitted that 31-year-old Congolese midfielder has a better chance of playing regularly elsewhere.

“Youssouf is at the age where he needs to play,” said Rodgers.

“He came in as a support player to the team but he needs to play in the next part of the season so he’ll probably go out on loan.”

Hibernian are interested in taking Morgan on loan, but the 22-year-old winger is more likely to join a club in England.
