Though he was set to be out-of-contract at the end of the season, Newcastle goalkeeper Freddie Woodman agreed to a one-year extension before heading out to Swansea City on a season-long loan.
With Martin Dúbravka penned down until 2022 and still in fine form, there’s little chance the 22-year-old will get his chance to shine at St. James’ Park anytime soon.
In addition, current second-choice goalkeeper Karl Darlow is expected to sign a new deal, meaning the U-20 World Cup-winning goalkeeper will likely have to look elsewhere in order to secure match time if Newcastle do not see him as Dúbravka’s potential successor.
According to the Chronicle, Celtic and Arsenal, who have reportedly been interested since the beginning of the year, remain keen on signing Woodman.
So far at Swansea, who are currently second in the Championship, Woodman has been a force between the sticks, allowing just five goals in eight games while earning four clean sheets.
