Though Corinthians went from Brasileirão and Copa Sudamericana contenders to not qualifying directly for the Libertadores and a shock exit at the hands of Independiente del Valle, Cássio believes the season was positive overall.

“We were a bit inconsistent, mostly at home. If we had done better at home, we would qualified for the Copa Libertadores group stage. But I see it as positive.

“It was a year of a lot of change. Many players have arrived. After Carille left, Coelho came into a situation where the team was not doing well.

“We know how Corinthians is when it is seven or eight games without a win. Coelho came in and the team responded well.

“Of course we have to add players and be more ambitious. We have to look to win titles and qualify directly (for the Libertadores).

“If you take history after the year of reformulation, we always respond well. In 2015, it was like this and in 2017 as well. May we be more consistent.”
